Hi, I'm Jillian Ju.
I’m currently a junior at Monta Vista High School. This year, I was an Arts & Entertainment editor and an Editor-in-Chief for El Estoque. I love being part of our publication — when working alongside my fellow student journalists, I’m constantly amazed by their ability to write engaging, relevant and informative stories. As an editor who is passionate about marketing and audience engagement, I see it as my responsibility to get these stories the attention they deserve.
To do this, I focused on three main avenues: our social media, our local community and our business strategy. I take inspiration from successful media around me — whether it’s professional newsletters or local festivals, every piece of content has something valuable to teach me about engaging with our readers. By taking advantage of social media as a medium, developing closer relationships with our audience and leading staff members to do the same, I have increased El Estoque’s presence both online and offline.
I’ve learned to step out of my comfort zone when approaching people; I’ve learned to work with analytics and numbers in a way that I never imagined myself doing (as someone terrified of math). Going into my senior year, I aim to make marketing and outreach as streamlined as possible for our staff by organizing resources and directing them towards more viable leads.
